Filerimos Monastery in Ialysos, Rhodes
The Monastary of Filerimos is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was built in 15th century by the Knights of Saint John and has Gothic architecture. It is also an important archeological site since it used to be the place where the Acropolis of Ialysos with the Temple of Athena once stood. The surrounding includes ruins of Ancient Ialysos, the baptistery and an underground church of Saint George.
The Monastery leads to a path which represents the Golgothas of Jesus with engravings that portray the Passion of Christ. This path takes you to a large Cross which you can enter, and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea.
