Tsambika – Kyra Monastery in Rhodes

This Monastery is located in Archangelos Rhodes on a hill 326 meters tall. There are plenty of steps leading up to the Monastery which was renovated in 1790. As you reach the top of the hill the view of Tsambika Beach is breathtaking. The name of the monastery comes from the word “tsamba” which is local dialect for spark. According to tradition a local shepherd saw a light sparkling on the hill, he was curious to see what it was and found the icon of Virgin Mary glowing under a tree. This is the spot where the Monastery stands today. It is believed that Panagia Tsambika has miracle abilities for women who have difficulty in conceiving.

Ancient Kameiros in Rhodes

Kameiros is an ancient city on the island of Rhodes dated back to approximately 407 BC. Kameiros was agricultural society which produced oil, wine and figs. It is a beautiful site where you can see the ruins of the ancient city and view the actual layout. The acropolis with the temple of Athena, the stoa, the ancient water supply system, the houses and the agora consist some of the remarkable ruins of the site with an amazing view of the Aegean Sea.

Filerimos Monastery in Ialysos, Rhodes

he Monastary of Filerimos is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was built in 15th century by the Knights of Saint John and has Gothic architecture. It is also an important archeological site since it used to be the place where the Acropolis of Ialysos with the Temple of Athena once stood. The surrounding includes ruins of Ancient Ialysos, the baptistery and an underground church of Saint George.

The Monastery leads to a path which represents the Golgothas of Jesus with engravings that portray the Passion of Christ. This path takes you to a large Cross which you can enter, and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea.

Seven Springs in Rhodes

Seven Springs is a magical valley surrounded by water and pine trees. Its name derives from the seven natural springs located in the area. Prasonisi, Rhodes

Prasonissi is the southest tip of the island around 72 km from Rhodes town, meaning “green island”. It has two sandy coves where on one side is the Aegean Sea and the other the Mediterranean. What is amazing about Prasonissi is the fact that when the water levels are high it becomes an island and when the water levels are low it’s a peninsula attached to the island of Rhodes.
